Sooooo what I ended up doing was this:

Susan Bates J hook
Using Red Worsted Weight acrylic yarn
Chain 213 (My Birthday Feb 13) LOL
Row 1 - 1 DC in each chain, chain 2, turn
Row 2 - 2 DC's in each DC of Row 1, chain 2, turn
Row 3 - 3 DC's in each DC of Row 2, finish off
Row 4 - (Done in a White fun fur type yarn) Attach yarn in first DC of Row 3, 1 SC in each stitch across to the end
Finish off, weave in ends, and Admire!!!!

(This turned out to be very long, so I suggest to make a chain as long as your arms stretched fingertip to fingertip)
FYI: Wooly Wormhead uses British terms, so for American terms, substitute SC for DC and DC for TREBLE (See below)

Row 1 - SC to end (SC once into each chain)

Row 2 - DC twice into each chain (increase row)

Row 3 - DC twice into each chain (increase row)

R0w 4 - DC once into each chain

Row 5 - SC into each chain

Geez.... I can't believe it has been over a year since I last posted in here......
I have gone thru spurts of major crocheting, then I become un-inspired and don't crochet for months BUT I have now opened up my own etsy shop flybabytina.etsy.com so I have been digging up some stuff to sell and some new patterns to create too! Moon Tea?

Ok, so it's been nice and warm here lately, in the 80's and I have been having a craving for Sun Tea... ya know, where you put tea in the sun to brew? The recipe is usually 1 gallon of cold water, add 9 tea bags, let sit in the sun to brew. How long to sit in the sun? That is up to you, shorter time (hour or 2) will lead to weaker tea and longer (4 + hours) leads to stronger tea. I normally let mine sit all day (8 hours?) Well I decided to get a jumpstart on my tea last night and filled my jar and set it outside afer dark, before I went to bed, that way my tea would get sunshine starting at sunrise. Yeah...... must be the moon decided it wanted to brew some tea last night because when I checked my jar at 8:00 AM it was brewed to perfection! I didn't know that tea could brew in cold water!!!!!! Why else would they make special "Cold Brew" tea??????
Anyway, I am enjoying my "Moon Tea" LOL

I'm from Buffalo. We eat chicken wings, not buffalo wings. We drink Labatt Blue and love it. Mighty Taco always has preference over Taco Bell. Pop, not soda and Pepsi, not Coke. A sub, not a hoagie. They are sneakers, not tennis shoes. It's a sucker, not a lollipop. Bison Chip Dip, Duff's Wings, Aunt Rosie's Loganberry, Chevetta's Chicken, and Ted's Hot Dogs are all too familiar. A fake ID is unnecesary when there is always Canada... but we have them anyway. Our bars don't close until 4, and we DO sell beer in a grocery store, which always makes for early starts and late nights. We never cuss, but we swear entirely too much. We know that a 65 mph speed limit really means 80. We will cut you off, swear, and give you the finger if you are not keeping up AND do it all in the snow, while expecting nothing less in return. Driving in the snow not only comes naturally, it is fun. We lived through Wide Right, The Forward Lateral, and No Goal. We love the Sabres (no matter what) and accept that it takes 2 hours to get home from a game. Nothing closes in 3 feet of snow or -20 windchills... in fact, that's how we prefer to tailgate. The 2001 Christmas Storm that dumped nearly of 7ft of lake effect snow we still think it's a mere 2nd to The Blizzard of '77. We can correctly pronounce, spell, and identify Chippewa, Scajaquada, Lackawanna, Cheektowaga, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Olean and Tonawanda without hesitation. We are one of the seven wonders of the world. It's the second largest city in New York. I AM FROM BUFFALO and damn proud of it!

This is my original pattern.
I have used techniques I have learned from various sources.
I rate this pattern "Easy enough for a Beginner"

The Best Baby Hat Ever! LOL
Scraps of homespun and a J hook

Round 1 - Start with a magic loop
8 single crochets in loop
NO slip stitch to join, just continue in a spiral
In back loop only:
Round 2 - 2 sc in each sc around (16 sc)
Round 3 - 1 sc, 2 sc around (24 sc)
Round 4 - 1 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc around (32 sc)

Now just continue on until the hat looks long enough. (Mine is 15 rows)
On mine I used a light purple for the main part, and a dark purple for the last 2 rows, for the last row sc in BOTH loops, slip stitch to join to the very last stitch.

This hat is very stretchy; has not been tested on a baby or any round object of similar size (yet)
Please try my pattern and let me know what you think

Christmas Scarf idea

Ok, I just had a brainy idea! My 6 year old son wanted a Christmas tree hat last year but I didn't like any of the crocheted patterns I found, they all were just a cone hat made in green and decorations added on later. So my MIL ended up knitting him a hat. It is the only pattern we could find with points.... As he left for school his morning I realized he needs a scarf to go with his hat; a Santa scarf perhaps? And then it hit me... what goes UNDER a Christmas tree??? PRESENTS of course! Now how hard can it be to make a scarf look like a bunch of gifts? I'm thinking squares with stripes for the ribbons and adding on a bow after for a 3D look.... what do you think? Any other ideas?

My Crochet Olympics Shrug is DONE!!!!!!

FINALLY!!! My "Mrs. Who Shrug" That I started LAST YEAR for the Crochet Olympics is FINISHED! I can't believe I put it off for so long... I used 1 3/4 skeins of Caron One Pound in Lilac... Let me tell you, what a difference working with Caron One Pounders when I am used to Red Heart Super Saver or Caron Simply Soft - the one pounders yarn is like using 2 strands of simply soft but NOT soft; it's almost like a heavy cotton. It is in the washer right now and it's gonna get a double dose of fabric softener! The one pounders do wash up very nicely, I must say.
I will post pics hopefully tomorrow!!!

Easy Cake Mix Cookies

Inspired by these recipesEasy Cake Mix Cookies (4 recipes)and a lonely cake mix in my cupboard, Amanda and I made our own cake mix cookies!
Pre-heat oven to 350*F
In a small bowl beat 2 eggs
In large bowl mix together:
1 cake mix
1 box instant pudding
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup (chocolate, peanut butter, butterscotch etc.) chips
Add:
Beaten eggs
1/2 cup oil
1/4 cup water
Mix well untill everything sticks together and your bowl looks "clean"

You could drop by teaspoons on ungreased cookie sheets and bake for 8-12 minutesbut what I did:
Spread mixture evenly into 2 (8 inch?) heart shaped pans.
Put into oven.
Bake for 16 minutes, checking and turning every 4 minutes.
Let cool for a few minutes before trying to remove from pans.

V-ery easy crochet scarf I love this pattern! I make mine so that they are 2 V's wide:
Chain 9, turn, (dc, ch 1, dc) (1 V made) in 5th chain, skip 1 chain, V in next, skip next chain, dc in last chain, chain 3, turn,
V in each V, dc in last stitch, chain 3
Repeat untill your scarf is as long as you wish.
This is so fun and makes for a good "brainless" crochet project cuz there is no stitch counting and if you use some fuzzy, fancy yarns (such as Wal-Marts NoBo brand or Dollar Store yarn like Pebbles) and a BIG hook it goes fast!

Amanda's Halter Pattern

Well sort of a pattern. I have never made something up before, and this is taken from many pictures I have seen from several places online and tried to figure out on my own. Therefore, it is not entirely my own idea so there is no way I would feel right about selling this pattern.

Size: I made this for my 4 year old daughter, but I believe it can be made for any size
Hook - Bates G/6/4.00 mm
Yarn - Caron Simply Soft Brites
(I used Watermelon as the main color and Grape for the contrasting color)

With Main Color:

TOP
~~~
chain 30 (or what looks right for your child)
chain 2, turn
half double crochet in 2nd ch from hook, 2 hdc's in next ch, then
hdc in each ch across EXCEPT the 2nd to last ch, you will do 2
hdc's in the 2nd last ch and 1 hdc in last ch.
Ch 2, turn.
Follow above pattern (1 hdc, 2 hdc's, 1 hdc across, 2 hdc's, 1 hdc
in last) for 18 rows. (or untill it looks right on your child)

BELLY COVERING
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ch 3, turn.
Row 1: 2 dc's in first stitch, *ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 3 dc's in next stitch*
Continue the * to * across. (Mine turned out exactly even)

Row 2: ch 4, turn, 3 dc's in each space across.
In the last stitch do chain 1 then 1 dc in last dc of previous row (will make a straight side)

Row 3: chain 3, turn, 2 dc's in first space (right next to the chain 3 you just made)
ch 1, 3 dc's in each space across, including the VERY last space made by the chain 4 of the previous row.

Row 4: follow Row 2

Row 5: follow Row 3

Continue Row 2 and row 3 for a total of 9 rows and Finish Off

(or what looks right on your child)
(Amanda HAS to have her belly completely covered)

Make your last row a "Row 3"

BORDER and TIES

With Contrasting Color:
Attach yarn at the bottom of the "top" on one side.
(between the top trapezoid piece and the bottom granny petal stitch section)
Chain 50, ch 1, turn, slip stitch back along chain (first side/waist tie made)
single crochet up along side of top section. at top corner, chain 50, ch 1, turn, slip stitch back along chain (first neck tie made) single crochet along top edge, when you get to the corner, chain 50, ch 1, turn, slip stitch back along chain (second neck tie made) single crochet down the next side, at corner chain 50, ch 1, turn, slip stitch back along chain (second side/waist tie made)

DO NOT FINISH OFF

Ok, let's see how well I can describe this middle ruffle.
Starting where you ended the last tie, turn the halter top upside down.
You will see in the middle where you skipped a stitch, that is where the 5 dc shells will go. Sooooo..... (this seems odd, I know....) slip stitch into the first skipped stitch, *5 dc's in that same skipped space, slip stitch into next skipped space* what it should look like is a ruffle that covers the skipped stitches.
(If you know of an easier way to describe it, please let me know)

Here is a middle ruffle pic; hopefully that will help you understand:

The ruffle goes in the stitch where the hook is thru.

You could finish off here or continue around the belly covering/skirt part in a single crochet border. I finished it off here.

You could also crochet something or other for an embellishment in the middle of the top and/or bottom corner of skirt part, like a flower, or maybe a critter that your little one likes. A kitty face would be cute!

New Name for my Blog

Ok, so when I started my blog, I wanted it to be about my journey of growing my hair long. (My goal is for my hair to reach floor length) In the months that have passed since my Blog's creation, I have learned to crochet and NOW I talk more about crocheting here than my hair (which now reaches my tailbone) which takes me to my new Blog name "Crafty Crochet (cro-shay)" I think it fits... On Craftster.org, I added my "Custom Title: A long haired, barefoot, crocheting momma" (does this mean I am a Hippy born in the wrong decade???) which is also what I am using for my subtitle here on blogger. Some FYI about ME: I am a stay at home Mom of 4 kids - DD13, DD9, DS6, and DD4. My hubby (of 11 years) works as a local truck driver. Over the years, we have struggled (emotionally) of him being OTR (over the road - meaning gone 1, 2, sometimes 3 weeks at a time) and now he is happy with a local company (and so are me and the kids) As already noted, I LOVE my long hair, and I LOVE going barefoot (which also means I wear shoes only when needed)

Olympics, purse swap and more

Well, to start with my Olympic sweater is STILL not finished I got so sick of all the sc's for the sleeves! I set it aside for a couple days, made some smaller projects, started my sister's "Beth's Little Star Afghan" for her baby boy which is due April 16, and picked the sweater back up, long enough to sew up the sleeves, start 1 1/2 rows of the ruffle/body, and that's it.... I was so excited about this one too!
On a good note, I FINALLY got my purse done and sent (late no less) to my "Crochetville Spring Tote/Purse Swap" partner http://goldilocksofyarn.blogspot.com/ I never got a pic of it before I sent it, but she did :) (Go check her Blog and see! She has a cute kitty too!)
I have also joined Crochetville's stole/shawl swap. This should be a breeze (I hope!) I made my SMIL (Hubby's step mother) a wonderfully fluffy shawl using the "winged hair kerchief" pattern from Crochetville and some of Wal-Mart's NoBo (No Boundaries) novelty yarn. It's kinda a chenille & mohair blend. Very soft, fuzzy and warm. She loves it!
I also made a bunch of hats lately, my fave pattern right now is the "Brimmed Granny Skull Cap" by Michelle Grissam. (Crochet Pattern A Day Calendar Thursday April 6, 2006) I have made 3 so far, using an I hook and Red Heart yarn (but no eyelash or flower); 1 was a blue verigation, 1 was camoflague, and 1 was red, white and blue (called Stars and Stripes) My 9 year old daughter has the blue and my 3 year old niece has the camo. My daughter's friend from school is getting the red, white and blue.
My 9 year old daughter also is learning to crochet! YAY! She learned to chain last night. If you have any good EASY patterns for kids to make, please send them my way!
Well, I guess I have rambled on enough for one Blog entry!

Well, I can't believe it's been so long since I have updated here... with the holidays and everything I guess I have just fallen behind... sigh... anyway, on to new things...

I have joined the Crochet Olympics! What fun! I am going to make my first wearable item (for myself even!) a "Mrs. Who Shrug" Mrs Who has started quite the trend at Crochetville since she posted her schematics, what looks to be a difficult sweater is actually very simple! Reminds me of the Rice Kripes Treats commercial where the Mom tosses flour on her face and stuff to make it look like she spent all day cooking LOL I am also doing the Hat-A-Week Crochet-A-Long at Crochetville, the Hat swap and Bright & Breezy Spring Purse/Tote Exchange there too and the Winter Silly Sock Exchange at LongHairCommunity.com (Gotta get my packages sent very soon!) Been busy testing patterns for a few people too. Guess I better get my hooks moving!

Tiny's new Santa outfit

We bought my MIL a Miniature Daschund puppy (Mini Doxie) for Christmas (a week early) His name is "Tiny" He was shivering everytime he went outside so I knew I had to crochet him a sweater. In the spirit of the season, here is his new Santa outfit:

My husband wasn't to thrilled that I put the puppy on the dining room table to take his picture.... My 2 youngest kids think Tiny looks so cute!

As you can see, Tiny isn't thrilled... but he is happy that his new outfit keeps him toasty outside....

Hat, scarf and doggie sweater DONE

I finally got Wendie's (DD13) Griffyndor scarf and hat DONE last night! I made Daizy (our Boston Terrier) a sweater today. She is a short haired breed (like a pug) and with the weather going to be COLD, WINDY and SNOWY for Thanksgiving Day (2 feet or more!!!!) Daizy really needed something to keep her warm while she is outside.

Hat was done using this pattern: Cone Hat for all Sizes (The longer version)
Scarf inspired by this site: atypically.knit Hogwarts scarves
Doggie Sweater found here (with a few alterations): Jack's Sweater and I added a crocheted Daisy to the back shoulders of the sweater using the instructions here: Crocheted Daisy Apron scroll down to the bottom of the page.

I will add pictures as soon as I get some taken :)

Yesterday I made matching UBW Hats for my 3 year old daughter and my SMIL (StepMother In Law aka My Husband's Step-Mother) Here is the one I made for my daughter:

It's not very UGLY is it???? But it IS warm!

Tomorrow is my SMIL's Birthday. We hare having a Surprise party for her today. I made her hat yesterday while she was here. She wore it home and I said, "You need a scarf to match". Here is the scarf I worked on last night and finished this morning:

Hmmm doesn't look much like a scarf does it? Well take a look at my sweetie WEARING the set:

I made the scarf following the instructions found HERE for "woolly wormhead's ripping yarns" Crocheted Version of the curly whirly scarf.
I used 2 strands held together to create each. The yarn I used was "Bernat Coordinates Sprots Weight" color 1010 115. It's a white baby yarn with one strand of ummmm shiny-ness. The second yarn was Worsted Weight "Red Heart Baby Teri" color 9588 Lavender. Tlak about wearing a cloud! This stuff is super soft! 2 strands of a lavender color and one stradn that's furry. I wish the pictures could show just how nice they really look done together!!!
I will TRY to get a pic of my camera-shy SMIL wearing her new set....

Crochet Hook-er that is! My Mom taught me how to crochet about 15 years ago but I never made anything bigger than a pot-holder. I have just recently picked up a crochet hook again and I am LOVING it!!! I have so mny projects I want to make! Right now I am working on a Griffyndor scarf for my 13 year old daughter. She also wants a hat and hand warmers/fingerless gloves to match. The scarf is about half done.
